What's your opinion on this opening? I just played it as black and it seems to work alright, despite its horrendous appearance.

I'd be very happy with that position with Black. Those advanced pawns of White's are juicy targets, ready to be attacked. Black will hit them with d7-d6 and c7-c5.

Looks playable for black. White has normal opening advantage and novice players as white could actually think that white is justified to start full-scale pawn storm or mating attack right out of opening because of black passive play. Of course we expert Pirc/KID players know that by doing so white will just commit a positional suicide.

it's not like you have any choice on where to move the knight.

I guess the choice is to castle on move four rather than playing d6.

Yes, I played 7... Nc6 after 6... d6, but perhaps 7... c5 would have been better.

Tried it a few times. Nobody played 5.e5.
Fischer called 5.e5 "Weak.'"
