i know this is possible but i have never done it and i know that i cant (ive tried by myself and i just cant control that king to the proper corner without some cooperation). so my question, does anyone have a game where they had to do it? or could someone just describe the general movements? also, should i be trying to end up with the king one square off from the corner (like A2 or B1 for example) with the bishop holding him there and the king supporting the bishop while the knight makes the actual checkmate (basically like a typical 2 bishop checkmate but with a knight) or should i try to get the king, bishop, and knight all lined up touching the wall with the enemy king in the corner (also a checkmate, i forget what order the 3 go in because i dont think this is the proper way to do it since the only long sequence ive seen leading to it required cooperation)
First of all u should know that the checkmate is possible onlyin the corner of bishop's color.
Black's king ( lets suppose - Black is a weaker side ) can get checkmate on one of three squares: corner itself or two adjacent squares.
First, put the position, where the king is already pushed to the corner:
White: king - e7, bishop - b5, knight - d5; Black: king - b7
here is the checkmating -
1. Ke7 - d7 Kb7-b8
2. Bb5-a6 .........
Now Black's king has only three squares available (a7, a8 and b7)
2. .......... Kb8-a7
3. Ba6-c8 Ka7-b8
4. Nd5-e7 (or N b4)
4........... Kb8-a7
5. Kd7-c7 Ka7-a8
6. Bc8-b7+ Ka8-a7
and now
7.Ne7-c6X or Ne7-c8X
Now - how to push the king...?
Now the position for step number two ( when the king is already at the board's edge ) and must be pushed to the right corner:
White: king f6, bishop e4, knight e5; Black: king h8.
1. Ne5-f7+ Kh8-g8
2. Be4-f5 Kg8-f8
3.Bf5-h7 Kf8-e8
4. Nf7-e5 Ke8-d8
Black tries to escape to the safe corner of a1
(if Black makes 4. ... Kf8,then 5. Nd7+ Ke8
6. Ke6 Kd8
7. Kd6 Ke8
8. Bg6+ Kd8
9. Nc5 Kc8
10. Bf7 Kd8
11. Nb7+ Kc8
12. Kc6 Kb8
13.Kb6 Kc8
14. Be6+ Kb8 and now checkmate in five
15. Na5(d8) Ka8
16. Bc8 Kb8
17. Ba6 Ka8
18. Bb7+ Kb8
19.Nc6X. )
5.Kf6-e6 Kd8-c7 (another step closer to a1)
6. Ne5-d7!! Kc7-c6
7. Bh7-d3!! (now all squares leading to escape -b6,b5,c5,d5- are under control and Black King returns)
7. .......... Kc6-c7
8. Bd3-b5 Kc7-d8
9. Nd7-b6 Kd8-c7
10 Nb6-d5+
White succeeded to create a position that was written in first part
