We all should know that you cannot force a checkmate with only two knights (aside from the kings, no other pieces are on the board).
However, it IS possible with THREE knights. Ok, you should have promoted that pawn to at least a bisshop, but say you want to show off or something.
Can anyone tell me how this checkmate works? HWO IT WORKS, NOT HOW IT ENDS. Or does someone know a site where i can find the procedure?
This is just off the top of my head, so if its wrong dont moan :-) You need the other king on the edge of the board, you can force that with 3 knights, you would need your king near theres, with a knight further down cutting off the kings escape square from the board edge, then you put a knight next to your king cutting the all but one of the remining kings squares, the king goes to that one and the last knight mates :-)
Hmm, i tried, the problem is that it either ends in stalemate, or my own king is on the square where i want to put my third knight.
I did find a way though. It is possible to force the enemy king into a corner. Say corner a1. Have your own king on c2 and a knight covering a3. The enemy king can't escape from his two square prison. Now move your two remaining knights so they can cover a1 and a2 in one move. From then on it's check and checkmate after that.
