I've no idea about Fischer, Spassky, Bogo or Nimzo
but there is the famous Myth the Alekhine once
had a pea in the corner of a room during the 1935 WC (!) match.

(He was truly was ahead of his time and supplying sample.) 😉

That nutters have been (for obvious reasons) part of the game for a long time, and so have rumours about substance abuse. Granted, they used to be ethanol and laudanum, not ephedrine, but I doubt it has ever seriously damaged the game as a whole.
