...Is not such a great idea, for real improvement. It seems I could never make the same mistake twice, yet still find new and creative ways to lose a game for infinity. A humbling thought, but I believe it to be true.

Stop learning from your experience.
Learn from the master experience.

Go over master games.
Go over master annotated games.
Play through master games.
Play through master annotated games.

Go over your games.
Annotate your games.
Play through your annotated games afterwards.

Suddenly, you'll be learning to make the right moves, for the right
reasons, rather than making the move which looks least dangerous.
Its amazing how it "Clicks" when you start playing with ideas, instead
of imitating and guessing.

you say in your profile you dont take time to study chess, start doing that and you will improve. there are some good books out there and computer programs. you play well now,but there is always room for improvement,

thanks for the advice. I'm thinking I should lighten my gameload and spend more time going over my losses move by move. At least the ones which are not so obvious to me where I went wrong.

I don't want to give the impression that I play completely by intuition. I do have some material which has proven quite helpful, namely 303 tricky chess tactics and Chess Mentor software.
I've just been musing lately that chess is like a symphony where the object is to be the conductor. But too often I feel like I'm playing to someone else's tune.

Just go ahead, spend your time, energy and passion on a game of chess. Waste your most precious resources to become a good player.
With the same effort one could get university degree.

This is what kills my joy of studying chess and why I prefer learning from experience. Unfortunately
