Linares tournament starts next week. Here's the dope from Chessninja.com:
"The field for Linares 2005 is complete. It's Kasparov, Anand, Leko, Topalov, Adams, Kasimdzhanov, and Vallejo. Kramnik was on the first and second lists of participants I saw, but won't be playing. I don't know at what stage negotiations broke down. He has been replaced by the FIDE champion, a comic twist. Linares continues with the bizarre seven-player field for no apparent reason."

Kramnik drops out. Sigh. It's always somebody, isn't it?

Linares, Yeah! I can't wait to see all of those 15 move draws and Kasparov embarrass himself again. Poor Kaspy, I feel bad for him. Everyone expects so much of him, but he's just not in his prime anymore.

But seriously, I am looking forward to it. It is the best quality chess you can see, and it gives me an excuse to go to chessbase.com everyday and look up the results. It's like the Olimpics of chess (not the lame Olimpidad) but with out the drug tests... wait... scratch that. It is the Olimpics of chess.

About Kramnik, whatever. He's too boring to watch. When I want exitment I expect it from Kaspy, Anand and Topalov. Plus Kasparov has a problem playing Kramnik so I'm just as happy to see him gone and see Kaspy do a bit better.

Who's Kramnik afraid of? I hope Kasimjanov does well.

I think it should be exciting! Although, if Kasparov is around, it's probably worth having Kramnik along as well - their games would've been fun.

My money's on Anand.

PS - It's "Olympics" and "Olympiad", btw. ;-)

I believe the organisers didn't give any starting fees this time.Instead they used that money to raise the prise fund,in order to force more fighting chess and less draws.Hope it works 🙂
