Yesterday it happened again. I played my standard game on FICS, 15 minutes per player. My player had much better rating and probably he made unlucky underestimation. After a combination in which I suddenly gained some serious material and positional advantage he disconected. So, our game is adjourned altough I know we'll never resume it, he will just ignore my tries to continue the game. If you play 20 games weekly, you can expect more or less 5 disconections in winning positions. It is very frustrating when are you playing 30 minutes and then when you get advantage your opponent abandon the game.
I asked at "help" admins what should I do, and it eventually developed into big debate;
There are some options to try to limit your opponent cheating, but none is fast or accurate enough.
You can set "no escape 1" but it limits significatly number of players you can play with.
You can send game for adjudication but it is adjudicated at far slower rate then this crap happens.
So I would like to make a list of players that play on FICS (standard or blitz) so in that way we can avoid frustration when playing against unknown and often rude opponents.
If we manage to do list of at least 10-20 players, we can make appointments for playing there with prior arrangement, it would be very nice. And without disconnections and cheating I hope. 🙂

It seems that I've played six games on FICS since September. I find playing there frustrating due to the possibilities for abuse and the inadequate resources for resolving such problems (free means volunteers do the work). My efforts to identify aspects of the site that deserve attention for improvement usually leads to debates or "help" without anything changing.
I still play there from time to time, and send others there when they tell me they yahoo, but I find that quality online play is worth the money I throw towards ICC and playchess (although ICC, too, is no where as good as it was five years ago).

I played a little more than 300 standard games on FICS, and I never played with "noescape" (I find it unfair), I remember that some opponents have disconnected in lost positions, once or twice, but not more, and I always got the full point from an admin.
I play mostly slow games, and I'm in the 1650-1750 range. I think rating is the most important factor, I can't remember seeing a 1600+ player disconnecting without reason, which probably means all players below 1600 are evil 🙂
Anyway, if you're looking for fair players I know many of them; Freidenker (but I play mostly on ICC now), Dreadtower (a living chess encyclopedia), grabapawn, aetotos... But I doupt any of them have "noescape" on.
