I play in one about a half an hour away from me in another suburb. There is basically a bunch of older guys playing there who just drink beers all night but they are pretty good. We have a former Ohio Champion that still goes (and relentlessly beats me) and every once in a blue moon IM Calvin Blocker shows up. One time, finally a kid steps in that is somewhat near my age, as I am the youngest one there, and we get paired to play in the quads for that night. I start to beat him and he gets kinda mad about it. Ok, a little more than that. He just blurts out "I hate you." Of course I respond with, "And why is that?", and he says, "Because you are a year younger than me so I should be better than you!". I just ignore that and go on with the game, as it's my move. Then he goes "Tick Tock, Tick Tock, it's your move and your time is running low!". And so I call over the TD and he repremands the kid and stays by the board to watch. The sad thing is when the TD called him on it, he said, "You have no proof that I said anything!". So the game goes on and he drops a piece, losing the game. He picks up his king and says he is gonna throw it at me. I call his bluff and say, "Just do it then. If you really want to, and it will make you feel better, then throw it at me." He sets it down, grabs his waterbottle and dumps that on me! Needless to say he got kicked out of the club forever. I think I have the game if you want me to post it. That story still gets me! 😀
