This isn't the longest but it's one of the slowest π
Game 67345 is very long. And here I was thinking, that you can only claim TO victories if you have sufficient material to checkmateπ
Originally posted by Svin1I'm also thinking that RHP should force a draw in situations like this which stupid.

π² as it turns out, I was wrong. now I believe the longest possible chess game (without it being possible for either player to claim a draw at any time) would be 5950 moves! i tried to play this game out on winboard (i thought it would have tooken a long time but probably only an hour), but after 500 moves it said there was an error, and winboard isnt capable of displaying games games with more than 500 moves, the stupid thing just closed on me! π³ (can u imagine my disappointment?). winboard sux. anyone who would think that id type out the moves into pgn format has got to be out of their mind. one last thing, people, please dont complain about my poor grammar spelling etc its 1148pm and u shood be glad im up so late doing u this service. i respect beer.

fred
the longest possible game where no one can claim draw during the game...
We have 50 moves between each pawn move or pice/pawn capture.
Each pawn have 7 moves before promoting to a pice. That gives all the pawns 7 x 16 x 50 = 5.600 moves before they all are pices.
That leaves us with 15 pices for each side. The longest sequence to eliminate those is then 15 x 2 x 50 = 1.500 moves.
Giving a total of 7.100 moves before the Kings are left alone on the board and either side can claim the draw.
Edit 1: ups reduce that with 50x8= 400 as the pawns in front of each other must capture a pice to pass
I have 6.700 moves now.
