Originally posted by kmac27I bought Flear's Offbeat Spanish slightly used from John Donaldson, who claimed to hold the writer in high regard. I liked it and subsequently bought The Ruy Lopez Main Line from a local independent bookstore that generally has a decent selection of chess books. Offbeat Spanish has been my companion through several correspondence games in which I've deployed the Berlin Defense as black.
the books by glen flear, the open ruy lopez and the ruy lopez main line.
Unlike some opening books, such as the "Winning with ..." series, Flear's books look at the opening from both sides.
one of the things that set me over the top for the book was that i went to a respectable website and it has a section and you can look for books for certain ratings. so i put in books from 1600 to 2000 and then i entered in the books that we've mentioned and found them so i thought they may be some use to me.
