Probably

Subscribe, join a clan, enter some tournaments.

Soon you'll have more games against high rated opponents than you can shake a stick at.

Pay no attention to them. You'll be drowining in unwanted games and tournament games against opponents you might not care for. Simply challenge players above your expected minimum ranking/rating.

I don't know about anyone else, but I don't accept challenges from non subs.

I was a non-sub for several years, and I've played against some that were terrific opponents. Some of us are just too cash-strapped, stingy, or casual to want more than 6 games at a time.

I've just joined so can use a tourny feature as for some reason it seems impossible to get a game with anyone over 1200...

There are often tournaments with rating bands- try playing in those if you want to limit the lower end of who you play.

Thats because you are new and no one has an idea about your true ability.

Once you get past the 20 completed games and your rating settles you will find game much easier.

Click on the Open Invites and stick up a few games looking for players rated at 1400 + or the ability you want to play. You'll soon get the opponents you want.

I'd also recommend joining a clan. Your clean leader will then automatically arrange games for you with opponents of a similar level to you. As your rating increases, so will the level of your opponents. Plus, you're playing for a team which (for me) makes the games more interesting.

Check out the 'Clans' icon on the top bar, or the Clans forum to find something that appeals to you.

I only ever play clan matches now, and the yearly championship tournament .. which should be starting any time.
