how many of those NMs stopped playing out of fear of losing rating points, and demanded special treatment from uscf to prevent their loss of form to show accurately in their rating? none. because uscf made an exception with heisman.

I have much more respect for the old GMs, IMs and FMs linked above, who don't mind playing rated games even if it shows their declining chess. they're going down with their boots on, as real men and women should.

sure, but we're not selling people services either. when money gets involved, the customer gets some rights. false advertizing is a crime at least hereabouts. I don't know about US, but at the very least it's highly unethical. if I'd go around selling chess coaching services advertizing myself to be a few hundred rating points stronger than I really am, it ...[text shortened]... e advanced amateur bracket even with a few healthy fistfulls of salt.

when you listen to his lectures they drone on and on, while i do not deny their practical value, yet i cannot stand to listen to them!

he doesn't have a very radio friendly voice, does he. then again, a few chess instructors do, except yasser seirawan. now that guy knows what he's talking about, and can teach the pants off anyone!

hi wormwood, its just you listen to say Alterman, and he has a Russian lilt which to us native English speakers has a novelty all of its own. when he says pay attention, you pay attention! or even Dzindzichashvili, who videos i think are practically useless, but i like it when lambastes chess players for being lazy, plus its almost as entertaining to watch his hiardo do fits during his presentations. But Heinsman is like just an arduous task to keep awake during the lecture, or he takes ages, or what seems like ages to get into it, i actually on more than one occasion shouted out as one may do at a football match, , 'shut up and just move the flippin pieces'. i thought that maybe his technique was to hypnotise the student and then implant chess principles in his subconscious, but it never worked for me. Kasparov was the same, for while i enjoyed his videos, he is quite entertaining, for he is emotional, i always felt like he was holding something back, like he didn't want you to know his secrets. Practical value was zero unless you were like almost a master already.

Yasser i have heard nothing but praise for, although i have neither read any of his books nor watched any of his videos.

I love to hear foreign accents when listening to chess lectures - there is something hypnotic about them that pulls you in and makes you feel more comfortable.... not in a gay way, mind you.

Having said that, anyone who has seen a kingscrusher video online will probably appreciate the English take on the game - he is a great commentator.

the best of all is Alexandra Kosteniuks voice, awe man, she says 'pawn to e4, best move', like no one else, soft and lyrical, with hints of vanilla and caramel, slightly tinged with sophistication without egocentricity. If only i was good enough to actually play her, my life would be complete! by that time she will have gone to seed! is there no justice! oh people weep with me, waaaaaaaaiiiiiiiillllllllll

He he, I am listening to her new video right now actually...

I like it most when she moves a piece to the third rank - she says it like queen c sree.

I dont think I would enjoy playing her very much - she seems to be so well prepared in the openings, and quite an aggressive type of player, not the sort of opponent that I last very long against - but at least she is a good teacher.

yes, she is very patient, check this site out, video quality is awesome, in world blitz championship 2009 Moscow she beats Polgar, beats Anand with the black pieces, draws with Karpov, mates Morozevich, beats Aronian with the black pieces, beats Grischuk and then takes the time to very patiently teach the kids opening principles. Shes an awesome ambassador for the game!

'queen c sree', sends shivers down ones spine every time

I looked at that anand game earlier - it was a bit of a swindle really - he won a piece very early on but gave it back for a speculative attack which never really materialised.
Still, her counter was pretty convincing really, it is not often you see a 2800 player made to look amaturish in his play.

yes, she played out of her skin early on, but was obvious tired by the end, plus i think she is what rated 2500, so for her to take on these guys almost three hundred rating points above her was no mean feat! I actually enjoyed the Karpov game the best, even though it was a draw, he a gentleman for sure. i am gonna thank you for ever for this statesman, 'queen to c sree', 🙂

Romans DVD's I find totally hilarious.

I reviewed a couple for Chessville quite a while back.

OK I guess but not at the original price.

At the Edinburgh Congress one of the female players came up to me and said:

"My God, you look just like you do in that picture."
(the one with the joke glasses).

"Handsome and dashing?" I replied.

"No...Really Creepy!"
