Maybe he's not talking about an official title. He's pronbably referring to the the rating classification of "master". As far as I know, that's 2200-2399.

That's only for the USCF though.

The only one that matters, of course.

Yes. This is different from the word 'Master'.

There's 4 extra letters at the front - have a closer look.

quibble quibble quibble...what is it about communists that makes them such quibblers?

Just in case your vocabulary isn't up to snuff:

quib·ble ( P ) Pronunciation Key (kwbl)
intr.v. quib·bled, quib·bling, quib·bles
To evade the truth or importance of an issue by raising trivial distinctions and objections.
To find fault or criticize for petty reasons; cavil.

n.
A petty distinction or an irrelevant objection.

To say that there's no such title as Master...ohhhhh, but FIDE Master or USCF Master....why, that's different........is asinine.

I never hear the word "master" used over here in the UK when referring to a chess player. People only care about International Master or International Grand Master (almost always shortened to Grand Master).

I imagine a FIDE Master is somewhere between 2000 and 2400 ELO, but what the criteria for becoming one are I have no idea (except that I bet it involves a hefty payment to FIDE).

FIDE awards the title of Master at 2300+ ELO.

asinine.
A bit of editing, shows that your post is another in a series of failed opportunities to contribute sense. Your hysterical anti-communism has manifested itself as a petty and irrelevant objection to Redmike's observation.

The term masters in the original question seems clear enough to cover such titles as FIDE Master, USCF Life Master, International Master, and Women's Grand Master. You might have noted thus, and not appeared more asinine than those to whom you hurled the term.

It goes without saying that none of the posters so far are any kind of master, and are thus unfit to address the original question.

On another site, I am a Tournament Master, which required earning four norms. It took me about 14 months to reach that milestone, but others (who play far more games at once) achieve the title much faster. RHP has no such titles, and all but a handful of players here are too weak to earn any OTB 'master' titles.

The question of how long is better posted directly to a master of the desired type than in an open forum crawling with vermin.
