3. g3 was a serious blunder for white. Better would have been 3. Nc3.

Then probably 3. ..Bc5 4. Nf3 Qf7 5. Nd5?

yeah i think if he ahd done nc3 i woudl have looked stupid and had to retreat. i was well happy when he didnt though

Yes, then you would have had a disadvantage in position. Generally it isn't a good idea to bring the Queen out early. There are exceptional circumstances though. Like in the Scandinavian Defence:

1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Qxd5 3. Nc3 Qa5

In this line black can play 4. ...Qxf2#, right?
