Well there is the problem. Where to draw the line. Of course he could have just googled it. no problem with that. So why did he had to ask it here, and just when he was going to end up with Q+K vs. K position?
I agree with the drawing the line issue.

Originally posted by Jusuh?? This is corr. Any research is permissible. Google and books are not 'external help'. Asking another person about a game in progress is.

Originally posted by JusuhFirstly, I added '(yourself of course)' meaning that you should not ask anybody else. My point was that it is good to think in advance.

Apart from that, databases and books ARE allowed in CC, even to research for specific positions related to games in process.

Yes, but only if the player accesses them directly and not via a third party. It's part of a player's skill in CC to be able to make good use of references etc. If somone is so poor in this area that they have to ask on a forum then it's not for third parties to show their skill at using books, etc.
Regarding "drawing a line", this turns a concrete rule into a subjective one because people will never agree where the line should be drawn. Hence, despite the fact that it may seem like overkill, the rule needs to be "no assistance for games in progress without exceptions".
Heya All,
First I'd like to say that the reason I asked was because I really thought I had read somewhere ... well nuff said, memory 1st thing to go (plus I did a lot of my chess reading during the 70's so, well take from that what you will 😉 )
2nd, I asked because if it wasn't possible.. (see 'first'😉 why waste both our time in continuing, would have offered draw.
and C, in hindsight, stupid question. Living and learning. Thanks for the input, sorry if asking was faux pa.

Just wondering if it's possible to get mate with just a queen and a king against a king. Or should I just offer a draw.
Thanks
Steve
If he can do it in 50 moves or more you will lose automatically...
Don't let these guys BS you!
