Nd4 {Now not 4.Nxd4 cxd4 5.d3 Qa5+ 0-1 a trap as Black I caught a few players with.} 4. a4 {Bit of a gamble, Black can play 4...a6 here. a6 is a handy move in most Sicilians.} 4... Nxb5 5. axb5 a6 {But here a6 is not so good, no threat. 5....d5 and Black is OK.} 6. d4 {Often in the 3.Bb5 line iyou transpose to an Open Sicilian.} 6... b6 {He wants to play Bb7 to be able to play axb5.} 7. O-O Bb7 8. Nc3 Nf6 9. bxa6 cxd4 10. axb7 {Too tempting not to play.} 10... Rxa1 11. Qxd4 {White must good here, Black is under developed.} 11... Qc7 12. e5 {The Knight is going back to g8.} 12... Ng8 13. Qe4 {Here I expected 13...Ra7 and I was sure I'd get the exchange back, maybe more.} 13... e6 {Now Black is in all kinds of trouble and the White moves are self playing.} 14. Nb5 Qb8 15. Be3 {Getting rid of Black's only developed piece.} 15... Rxf1+ 16. Kxf1 Bc5 {That Bishop had to cover the d6 square. but alternatives look just as grim.} 17. Bxc5 bxc5 18. Nd6+ Kf8 {The Knight holds b7 freeing the Queen to roam and plunder.} 19. Qa4 {Threat Qa8.} 19... Ne7 {20.Qa8 Nc6 but there is another way in.} 20. Qxd7 {The e7 Knight cannot move.} 20... g6 {Trying to wriggle away and get the h8 Rook into play.} 21. Nc8 Nf5 {Now the cute wins are appearing..} 22. Ng5 Nh6 23. Qd8+ Kg7 24. Qf6+ Kg8 25. Nxe6 {I thought Black might resign here but good for him, he allowed a neat wrap up.} 25... Nf5 {26.Qd8 mate. No. Not when you have a chance to play....} 26. Qg7+ Nxg7 27. Ne7# {Checkmate.}
For the Rook I got a Bishop and a big pawn. The Bishop had spent two moves developing. I used those two moves castling and developed a piece (Nc3) I did not look at anything else.
Counting developing itempo is a good rule of thumb and must be remembered as such, rules of thumb are guidelines. But out of habit I've always done it.
