Interesting event that requires 1500 registered players or the tournament will be cancelled. I really don't think there are that many players willing to pay that much to play. The popular World Open tournament held during the summer draws ~1200-to-1,300 players, but that includes many children in the lower amateur sections.

1,500*$1,500=$2,250,000 for the purse.

And the official website:

There is no way that 1000+ players will stump up the $1000+ entry fee.

Yes, I noticed the stringent dress code as well as the ban on the French Exchange Variation. Surely there are other boring openings they should have banned too...

All long as you pay for your flight and hotel room and you get $999 from other RHP members I will send you the last $1 bill.

If this is an open tournament you would need about 11 rounds for 1 player to be undefeated.

Possibly a PR stunt.
No way will he get 1,000 poor chess player stumping up $1,000.

The Exchange French still has bite if one player is up for it.
Kasparov played it v Korchnoi when needing a win - and he got it.
But that is Kasparov.

On here I have the Exchange French 10,281 times.

White Wins 4,016
Draws 1441 ( 15% )
Black Wins 4,824

The more Black wins are possibly due to Watson's off the cuff remark
that after 3...exd5

White is in Zugzwang.
What ever plan White adopts Black has a good antidote.

Open is $100,000 for the winner.

For me in U1,600 I would get $40,000 for first.

I've changed the way I play against the exchange French recently to go for a sort of Bd6, Ne7, Nc6, Bf5/g4, Qd7, O-O-O set-up and I've had some very exciting games in blitz chess on playchess.com.

Inviting Boris would generate publicity for the tournament.
However Boris should be warned that Las Vegas take cheaters into a back room and #%#@@.
