I usually use the same old openings, not many gambits but i know in most e4 lines how to spice things up..
But on blitz i thought i would try.. e4 e5 Nf3 d5
after exd5 i played the dubious looking Bc4.. which as my opponent was lowly rated i thought was playable. it was three mins game so i thought naturally im trying to play a little wild.
Instead of (the best?) Nxe5 my opponent played the reasonable looking d4, when exd4 Nxd4 Qxd5 and black stands a little better.. however my opponent played the disastrous Nb3?? where Bxf2+ wins the queen for bishop (Ke2 Bg4+)
However the counter attack with 2..d5 seems to be a promising way to get an unbalanced game. Any other lines to look into, traps etc you like to play in that line? Thinking of making it a regular in blitz, which i rarely play.
Originally posted by mazattackWell, it's called the Elephant Gambit, and is quite useful as a surprise weapon, even at longer time controls. It's not that great if white knows what he's doing though - white can avoid most of the fun lines (though I can't for the moment recall how!)

Still, definitely a good choice for an adventurous player at quicker time limits/blitz etc.
It's just as good as the Latvian. I played it a few times with some good results.
The main line does give white a plus but everyone I played against
never knew the mailine.
Levy calls it a 'joke' opening but does admit to losing against it.
Todays story.
I had to play Vince Slaven (an 1900 player). He was going through
a Vienna phase.
I borrowed a book on the Vienna from the Edinburgh Club library.
I never even looked at it. I just put it down on the board before the
game with a few book marks in it to make it look like I had been studying it.
I'm Black
1.e4 e5 long pause. 2.Nf3 d5 and a draw in 25 moves.
The End (true story)
In blitz when I meet it I play 3 Nxe5 and of course 4. Nxf7.
I usually win.
