Hey everyone,
I loved the thread with everyone posting their opening repertoire, and I was wondering something else. What would you consider the most efficient opening repertoire? By efficient, I mean a repertoire that provides the best balance between time needed to learn it (and keep up with it), and the solidity and respectability of the system. I'm not talking about some obscure opening to catch unsuspecting opponents in a trap, but rather openings that the average player for whom chess is an important hobby can study along with tactics, strategy and engames in a reasonable amount of time.
For example, there's a big difference between a repertoire with mainline open sicilians, Ruy Lopez, and Semi Slav ande one with the King's Indian Attack and Modern Defence, even though all are played by grandmasters. I was just wondering what you all thought was the most efficient opening repertoire to reach good middlegames and still have time left to study other aspects of chess.

My conclusions on openings:
A) The Sicilian is simply overated
B) The Queen Gambit is probably the easiest way to get an endgame win.
C) The French is boring
D) The Sicilian can become very boring if white refuses to play d4 the entire game, then it becomes like a French where sides stand pat.
E) Any opening making knight outposts seems to win for whatever reason, so if you can find an opening that does this, you can play annoying knight sacrefice tactics that win.
I recommend the Reti opening for white. Almost regardless of what your opponent is playing you can play 1. Nf3 ... 2. c4 ... 3. g3 ... 4. Bg2 .... 5. 0-0 ....
A second advantage of starting with this set up is that you have many possibillities to transpose to another opening. It's quite flexibel.
For black learning the kings indian or the Alekhine is pretty easy in themost common lines.
The best advantage of what I mentioned above is that you can start of with Nf3 (white) or Nf6 (black).

My opening repertoire is pretty efficient for me:
1.e4 (sometimes 1.d4 if I'm in the mood)
as black: 1...e5 against e4 and 1...Nf3 against d4
That right there is my ENTIRE repertoire.....pretty efficient, eh? 😛
forgot to mention...
against 1.c4 I simply resign. Won't play against it, so if anyone wants free rating points for a real short game, come English at me 😵
