I never said I wanted to play like him. And he wasn't always boring, he could rip people apart in very quick style. His nickname was Tiger, and you can't get that by playing like a pansy all the time. Have you ever seen his game vs. Spassky? Some one quoted something like this after the game. "It's very much to Petrosian's advantage that his opponents never suspected he could play like Tal!" Noone respects him because he is a "boring" player. I give him more respect! πŸ˜€

Ho there!Don't get me wrong.I have a lot of respect for Tigran's chess ability. But not for the style he played in most of the time.I just don't fancy that. And I do know that he could play like Tal.His problem was that he lacked selfconfidence. If he had that,he would have been champion for a much longer time,I'm sure.By the way,did you know he was the all time best blitzplayer.I once read a story about him playing in the recreationroom of a tournament hall,in disguise. With a wig and a false beard. He defeated all the local clubplayers without any effort. And so the GM's came to check out this strong player, and he defeated them all.Mind you,we're talking of the topGM's of the time!Only a few people knew who he really was.Funny story, supposed to be true, but I'm not sure.
Anyways,I didn't intend to be disrespectfull of Petrosian.Just wished he played more often to his full potential. We would have seen a lot of historical games by him.But I do respect his choice to play any way he wantsπŸ™‚

I didn't take offense. Sorry if it sounded that way. πŸ˜€ I don't even think he lacked self confidence. He just believed early attacks were bound to be stopped with defensive play. He would break them down first! Then show his skills.

No,it's an established fact that he lacked self confidence.

the first club i joined at age 16 would have the most influence on me, there was a few players there who always gave me advise after beating me and i gradually improved

'my system' later gave me a new insight into the game
(which reminds me, i want to reread it over the summer months again)
