OTB : Current BCF rating = 163

Goal : Have started the current season a bit badly, current rating is looking at being around 158, so my goal is to finish the season strongly, play one or two tournaments and hopefully end the season at around 165.

CC : Current rating 1476

Goal : 2000 That's it, the magical 2000.

Good luck on reaching the magic 2000 rating!

I was (briefly) over 2000 (USCF) with a published rating in the May 1987 Rating Supplement of 2002. I am currently at my floor of 1800.

I am curious as to why so many of you speak of USCF ratings. In my country (Portugal) we only use our own federation ratings if we do not have a FIDE rating. If a player does have a FIDE rating then it surpasses the national rating, even if the national is bigger (exemple FIDE 1500 > National 1600).

So why is it that USCF and BCF use their ratings so independently? With the latest rules from FIDE stating that the bottom floor for FIDE rating is 1400 it seems pretty easy to have a FIDE rating (even I have one now). Do your countries simply don't care for FIDE ratings or is it that there are few FIDE rated events in the US that makes it hard to get a FIDE rating?

Or Is it politics against FIDE for some positions it has taken in the past?

Not trying to flame or anything... just curious really. Personally I think it would be better for everyone around the world if we could all regulate with the same rating system. Saying that I am 1400 FIDE means nothing if you are comparing with a separate ELO system.

And it still means nothing if you are trying to compare it with a different pool of players.

In the US there aren't fide rated events like in Europe and Asia. Therefore USCF is 'the' rating in the US.

*edit*

Meant to say there aren't as many FIDE rated events.

There are FIDE rated events in the US, but not for 1400 players. Events are FIDE rated if they are international events. National and local events are USCF rated.
