Excuse my ignorance of this but, what exactly is a traxler game?
  3. 14 Jan '08 15:05
The position at move 5 is called the traxler.

Also called the Wilkes-Barre but, I have also always prefered the name Traxler. This is one of my favorite defenses in OTB play but, I seem to struggle with on internet Chess. Here is my only Traxler game here on RHP:

I'm not sure if I did that link right so, here is another try, just in case:

OK, I give up! How do you post a link to your games?

Either type [gid]game number[/gid] or use the "Insert link to a game" link under the post button.

My first, only and last Traxler game: Game 4379422

I remember, after the opening moves, looking at the position and thinking: well... now I'm a pawn down and my king is bothering the development of my other pieces. What have I done?

I was lucky to get out alive.

Lucky to get out alive? You played that very nicely...

White did play a good line though... Bxf7+ is much better than Nx although I still insist that black can equalize.
