...and I'm not sure why. Maybe it's just my incompetence, but I thought I was going to have a hard time getting his king out of the corner.

Ask them....But i think white has the better of things - unless someone can show me otherwise...

**This may contain errors -- Don't assume its gospel...Which is why I might edit it..๐Ÿ™‚**

EDIT ----

I've decided not to remove my COMPLETLY WRONG ANALYSIS (see below) it serves as a reminder....be more careful....

how can white make two moves in a row? ops! silly me....

Here's my re-evaluation: -

Kh1 Rxb7 Kxh2 Rb3

oh that explains it all.....

White is going to Drop the A-or G pawn....

If we assume the A-pawn....

Kg2 Rxa3 Ra6 g5 ....

then lets assume....

c5 Rc3...If the pawns are traded off [Rxa4 Rxc5] black is a pawn up....which may well decide the game...

Best white can hope for is a draw...

____________________________________________________________________

AND FOR THE WRONG STUFF.....
___________________________________________________________________

Kh1 Rc7....

Black's Rook is now pinned to the B-file therefore it can't "change lanes" and free up his A pawn

Kh6 c5 g5 c3 g4 fxg4 f3 Rf7

All White's Rook must do is prevent the F pawn promoting even if it requires sacrifice...

f2 Rxf2 Rxf2 b8=Q

And if black plays something other than f2 [lets say Kg5] ....c7!

c7 Rxb7 c8=Q Rxf7 - this is much more powerful if Whites Rook isn't on the 7th rank.

So....I am puzzled why White resigned...

After 49. Kh2 Rxb7 50. Kxh2 Rb3 black will win the a pawn (it cannot be defended).
Note however that black should take the f pawn if it isn't defended (for example 51. Ra6 Rxa3 52. c5 Rc3 53. Rxa4 Rxc5 54. Rxf4 = may be non-optimal play rook and pawn endgames are tough).

White to play

EDIT: OOPS...
Kh1 is the only starting move for white. Then the pawns are exchanged.

Resignation doesn't look justified to me. White will lose the queenside pawns, but black as well, leading to a K+R+p vs. K+R+2p with good drawing chances. White posts his rook on the 8th rank, attcking the king and the g-pawn whenever he has a chance.

Not like Loose Screw to resign needlessly
Guess you should ask him

No, looking back at it it's my incompetence. ๐Ÿ˜ž
I made a stupid thinking error which resulted in my resignation. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

"The one who wins at a game of chess is the one who makes the fewest (noticed) mistakes."

Again I will congratulate you with your win and thank you for the good games. ๐Ÿ™‚

btw If I make such a stupid mistake again, then a PM is more then enough to get a reaction out of me. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Or rather the one who punishes the opponent's last mistake.

But a public shaming is sooo much more fun. ๐Ÿ˜‰ But really, it's much less embarrassing than many of my blunders (I am currently extremely good at making them ๐Ÿ˜ž), and putting something like this into the public forum gives more people the opportunity to think it through and maybe learn something from it.

I certainly wasn't trying to shame you, Loose Screw. If anything I'm surprised no-one's asked why the heck I moved my pawn to h2!

No problem here (anymore) about that, orfeo!
It only proves (again) how human I am. ๐Ÿ™‚

Any suggestions, my friend?
Maybe we can talk about it during a friendly game? ๐Ÿ˜‰
