I'm brand new to this site and forum, but arrived after a web search, and am mighty happy to be here!
Here is a topic that I hope you all will find interesting. To give you a little background information, I have been playing since the 1970's, and have played a ton of games against my Novag Saphire hand held. About a thousand to be exact, and I want to tell you, that little machine kicks butt!
Anyway, I am also a free lance writer, and thus am very creative with words and language. Here is my point: I consider it a hobby to create interesting names for chess games. I feel that if the game is worthy of being played by me, it is worthy to memorialized with a name. I have a blast doing this, and it gives each game a distinctive personality and a bit of dignity. Plus, when looking over my past games, a name will catch my eye, and I can replay the game of my choice.( I keep all my scores meticulously in a notebook)
Anyway, my thought was to perhaps someday publish a book of the thousands of names I've created, and perhaps market it to the chess community. Yes, most of the names can be used for your own games)
Be that as it may, I was wondering if any of you would like to hear some of the names I've created? I think you would get a charge out of them.
I'll give you a couple teasers: Pawn Soup, I'll Never Forget Good Old King What's His Name, The Queen She's A Goner, Knights In White Satin, The Day The Bishops Came Out On Maple Street. The Knight Has A thousand Eyes
Wanna here more? Believe me, they get BETTER!

Originally posted by kingisdeadUmm, are you going to actually play any games or just hawk book ideas? It's a chess site, not a publishing house or marketing test group. As for your idea, I have a lot of chess books with famous games but the players didn't name them; the whole thing sounds a little narcissistic (and a bit loopy).

Or he could be just a bit odd. Anyway, go ahead and have fun; I'm not a killjoy.
I see nothing wrong with it.I think it's a fun idea.If it's a bit narcissistic(pfff,what a word!),so what,as long as he's having fun 🙂

I dunno: I think it's kind of a cool concept. Especially if one has the ability to laugh at oneself. For example: what would you name the following? Game 645343 (Apart, that is, from "PAUL YOU IDIOT!"😉
Perhaps "How dare he refute my brilliant bishop sac by taking my queen?"
I will list some of those names, but at the moment, my son wants his computer back, so I will have to do it tommorow.
And, by the way, I'm NOT hawking books, in fact the book containing chess names hasn;t officially been "written", and I just threw the "plug" in, (if you can call it that), to see if anybody would even warm up to the idea, so that someday, if I DO decide to publish those names in book form, then I' will at least have an idea if it will be palatable. So lighten up, fellas. I only name my games because I get a kick out of it. It's a fun way of stretching your creative abilities. I get a kick out of punning and other paronomasia type things.
Back tomorrow with a few names.
