he was on America's most wanted a few days ago. Seems he did more than just teach kids chess. Does anyone know who he is or was taught by him?

You can click on the video tab on that link and see a video. What did he mean "typical chess nerd"?

edit: for those in the USA the America's Most Wanted Episode is here:

seems like a typical evil doer, I just didn't like that "typical chess nerd" comment. Hopefully he wasn't talking about us hobbyists.

I remember I saw him at the 2005 Supernationals III tournament. He had set up a table and was analyzing a game and he was surrounded by kids. I was playing at that tournament, and I wanted to go watch the game he was analyzing but my father told me not to because there was something about Snyder that bothered him. Turns out he was right.

Snyder was also featured in the commemorative book from Supernationals III, where I think he analyzes a game and gives an interview

This scumbag needs to be sent to prison where he can be analized often by the other inmates. His title should be National Monster.

Yeah, I would think that most people would have the intelligence to realise that being on America's Most Wanted might make him, by definition, somewhat atypical.

The typical pedophile is an unbelievably manipulative person that is able to position themselves within close proximity to their targets. They often have multiple victims (like 50-100). Marrying someone to get close to their child is common as well.

It's amazing, but they fool people. I mean, Will Smith and Nicholas Cage had him teach their kids...think they'd let someone who is obviously creepy get close?

It's scary, but this is sort of a textbook case. For reference, consider the Dennis Gray case in Toledo. Very similar story--except without chess.

Careful who you leave your kids with for any amount of time.
