I got this played vs me the other day but I have no clue what to do against it. If you play g3 Qe4+ Qe2, he gets rook but after Nf3 his queen is out of play for a few moves. Is it really worth sacing a rook for that? I dont know what to do so any help = thanks!

I found these, but no example with f4

Qh5+ looks like a nasty threat no matter what Black plays which is why Blackburne played ...g6, I guess. What do you think of 4. ... f4
1. e4 e6
2. d4 d5
3. e5 f6
4. f4 fxe5
5. Qh5+ g6
6. Qxe5 Nf6
is to Black's advantage with ...Nc6 coming soon.

In response to original. I believe after 5. dxe5 (instead of fxe5). Qh4+ is useless because 6.g3 will stop queen effectively this time.

White also has problems with the a7-g1 diagonal having moved the f-pawn so early.
To conclude, 4.f4 here is positional suicide.
I believe 3...f6 is your problem. It's rarely played at the top level. The move you want is 3...c5
Man, i keep recommending this move to all french players. You gotta play it anyways so get it out there right away.
f6 that early just weakens your kingside and leaves your king exposed.
A sorry, you were talking about the white side.
For white, 3.f4 is a mistake, same reason opens up the king etc...
3.Bd3 or 3.Nf3 is what your are looking for but i would go with 3.Bd3
