Feivel, also understand that the higher ranked players have much more to lose by playing a player who is known to be highly skilled but to have a low ranking. Say players A and B are equally skilled, but A is rated 600 points higher than B. If B wins, A's rating is reduced quite a lot more than if A and B were equally rated. I would guess that's why David Tebb (a high ranked player) asked Schliemann (whose rating had dropped substantially when he left the site for a while, but who is known to also be highly skilled) to wait until his rank returned to 1700 before making a challenge.
Me, I'll accept a challenge from anybody, so send over a game if you want. You'll most certainly find me to be a pushover, though!!!
Originally posted by Feivelhold up there fella... I don't care how good you are or think you are, don't go calling people push overs. It's rude.
Suffice it to say 1640 was a pushover 🙂
Play at the site, see if you like it. I think you'll find most people will play anyone - unless they have specific reason to not want to. There should be people here to challenge anyone, and if not how about teaching others until they can (as some of the top rankers here already do).
If a game is easy I will say it. I am not going to "lie" just to save someone embarassment. If you notice, I did not and will not post the players name. For all I know, he may have been "blitzing" out the moves to make the game go faster. In any case, unless I become a pawn star soon, wait till I get below 10 games again and challenge me. You will see that I have no problem with teaching my opponents some things (tactics, protecting weakness, etc.) Just from the sheer volume I play you should have understood that I am not adverse to helping my oponnents, if I was, there is no way I could have played as much "serious" email and web based chess as I have (not to mention the Amici Sumus signoff).

I believe the top players on this site are in the 2200-2300 range.
Currently I do not have a USCF rating. 20 years ago it was 2180.

Maybe I'll send a challenge your way after I practice for a couple of decades. 😉
Welcome aboard, hope you like it! (But do try to avoid gratuitously dumping on others' ability in the forums: happily that's one thing that's really never done here.)

Anyone can find out your opponent by using the Public Games feature.
Fortunately, most of the better players on this site seem to be much friendlier and certainly more modest!
Originally posted by FeivelSince, as you've indicated, we're friends, how about a friendly wager...? If I beat you, you subscribe.
Before I decide on a subscription (or not) I would like to sample some of the competition here. Would someone rated 1800 or better please challenge me.

bbar,
That would be fine but there really is no chance for me to win anything besides the game. You see the most likely outcome is that I will subscribe here within the week (quite possibly within the next 2-3 days). If you want, I will send a challenge to you ASAP (when a slot opens - you are the first to get it) or when I get my subscription active. If I pay by CC do you think they will activate me before monday? This post (barring the few weird responses) has gotten more positive response (meaning competition) for me than I thought possible. That does it, I will subscribe sometime this weekend 🙂
