Here's a game where I seriously blundered away a strong piece one night by virture of temporary insanity: Game 2641708. Did I give up after this mistake? Did I see the game as lost? Heck no! I fought on with even more energy and drew the sucker.

For all those people who think a player should resign when disadvantaged, remember that the object of the game is checkmate, not material advantage.

Not a win but given the circumstances of my "fooling around" I was lucky not to lose this.

Game 2274208

and this was really dire. My first ever KG here, lost by move 4 for white, and won in 35 moves.

This makes me more and more sure in my advices that:
Never quit if you don't want to.
Never let anyone make you to quit if you don't feel like it.
As long you think or feel that you have a chance, don't quit.

If anyone want to play our game out until he is mated - I generously let him do so. Perhaps he just want to learn something of it.

It only needs to happen once to be worth it.

Probably the most blatantly dumb mistake I've made here:

I am glad I am not the only player rated above 1800 that gives away pieces for absolutely nothing.

Play on if you feel like it, that is how to gain experience; do what you you think is best for you, not your opponent.

but bear in mind lost games drag you down and make you feel bad. They influence how you play other games. If the game is bleeding you dry and you have no chances resign it. You will feel better for it.

Yet a material advantage frequently leads to checkmate, so it should not be so quickly discounted.

Glad thesonofsaul posted our game, so you could enjoy my instructive lesson in how to snatch a draw from the jaws of victory :-) --- actually, he and I had a great time playing this game: good banter, good spirit, etc. -- btw, not sure whether "the sucker" was the game, or me :-) -- but a handshake to sonofsaul for a fine battle.
