New BabasChess

BabasChess 3.9 BETA has been released and I have to say it's awesome. The first thing you will notice is the improved look and usability. New pieces, new style, better menus, etc. But after using it for a few days it's the features that will attract you most.

BTW: BabasChess works great with ICC also. 🙂

How do you connect to ICC using this interface?

I tried logging in with the Babas beta with no success. Using the server chessclub.com and the port 5072 I got an error saying "Unknown Server". These are the exact specs used by Blitzin, and I set my firewall to allow the program on all ports. Any ideas?

No way, I know it sounds funny, but FICS sucks compared to ICC, and I have playchess, and like ICC better than that too.

ICC probably has a lot more strong players on it than playchess, although I can't guarantee that.

Does the new babaschess have bugs, since it's a beta verison?

Either the default settings are wrong for ICC or there is a bug. It is a beta after all so it definitely has bugs. In any case, even if they don't fix it, it's not a big deal. The new Dasher ICC interface will be released in August. (along with a price increase)

Not sure where you heard that it supports ICC from, but it doesn't. I just got a response from some supports dude.

Well, it worked before. That's why when you go to advanced, you have ICC as one of the options. Icarus 2.0 also works as an ICC interface, as does Winboard. I'm sure this is all going to be fixed soon enough.

BTW: DO NOT BUY FRITZ 9 if you want the best bang for the buck. Shredder 10 from Chessbase has everything that Fritz 9 has (Fritz GUI, Palychess etc.) but it includes the much stronger Shredder and also the Shredderbases. (extremely fast tablebases to allow the program to play perfect chess with 5 pieces or less)

Eww I tried it out, it was terrible!

So many bugs, playing became a chore, and I hated the new graphical design.

I give it two stars, the old BabasChess is four stars, not five because you can't access FICS with an engine.
