The above position comes from the french defence which I have not encounterd many times. It is white to move. What plans do white and black have in the position? It seems to me that white statically has an advantage and I believe whites best plan is simply to develop quickly with 0-0 and take the open file with Rc1. After Rc1 maybe Na4 is good. But black still seems hard to crack. To me it looks drawish but that's probably because I don't know enough about the position.

If you have played or seen a game with this position or something very similar where there is e5 vs. e6,d5 please share it with some analysis.

It seems that the knight on f6 should belong to black.
It is shown as white knight to me.
Also, your suggestion of Na4 just gives the knight away (Qxa4)

Is the white pawn meant to be on d3? Looks odd for a French.

Yes the moves are 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Bg5 Be7 5.e5 Nd7 6. BxB QxB 7.f4 a6 8.Nf3 c5 9.pxp Nxp 10.Bd3 Nxb 11.pxN Nc6

I'm wondering if ...d4 is good for black in this position. I don't know, maybe it gives his bishop a little better chances on b7. At the same time it seems to be a weakness. To play d4 for white to block d4 by black seems useless. White must finish development I think but I'm not sure.
