Is there a name for every 1 move opening? Or are just a lot of openings obscure with no real reason behind it?

And for extra bonus points - which of those twenty openings was most successful against Paul Morphy?

That is correct. Anderssen tried 1.a3 three times against Morphy and managed one win, one draw and one loss.

1. g4 worthy of !! or ?? according to choice.

The opposite is 1. .... g5 played against anything white plays (probably even if white chooses to play the violin) and called the Borg.

And someone kindly informed me that Borg is simply Grob spelt backwards and nothing to do with the "resistance is futile" semi android beings that used to put the willies up starfleet captians.

The only time that I ever took clear first in a blitz tournament at the Chess Palace in Los Alamitos, California (now located in Garden Grove), I played 1 g4 in every game as White and 1...g5 in every game as Black.
