Recently I aquired a portable Scisys Express 16k made around 1986 and endorsed by the one and only Garry Kasparov (with estimated elo of 1800). A very handy little machine for the odd game. Also somewhere lurking in my attic I have a Tandy 1850, again endorsed by GK, est elo (yes you guessed it....) 1850. Which looks suspiciously identical to the a sister machine of the Express the "Scisys Turbo 16K". Anyway the great thing is that you can pick these sort of machines up dead cheap nowadays on ebay or in charity shops. And 20 years on, they are still going to be strong enough to beat the majority of us!. So what old chess computers have the rest of you got ?

I have a Radio Shack Chess Champion 2150 (or mayby 2100, I'm not sure which). It plays strong, and has a good variation of openings. Nice look too. I rarely take it out anymore since I have an actual computer. It's a table top, so portability is an issue, but you get a pretty good battery life if you don't use the AC adapter. Bought it in 1993.

I've got an old Fidelity Excellence. It was rated around 1800 as well. I don't even remember when I got it, probably sometime in the mid-80s.

Saitek Simultano, also endorsed by Garry Kasparov, also rated 1800ish(I think).I bought it because it could play 8 games simultaneously, hence the name, but somehow never used that feature 😕

I have a chess programme for an 80's microcomputer, but I haven't used it in a while as it's so slow. On skill level 3 (out of 6) the computer averages 5 minutes per move!

Radio Shack 1650 sensory chess computer, manufactored by Scisys in the early 80's. It's portable measuring 7.5 x 4.5 inches, and has 9 levels of slow to slowest play. Later models of this unit are endorsed by G. Kasparov, but mine says endorsed by The (entire) World Chess Federation.😛

bought the original macintosh back in 1982. going by the really low 3-digit serial number, i must have received one of the first batches off the assembly line. anyway i remember using Sargon 3 as the chess software.
