It would be more difficult if the position had pieces that are not involved in the action. It is just a matter of trying every move, and it always is about zugzwang, one way or another.

1...Bg5 and 1...Re3 both need an answer. Providing for both focuses the solver in on the right move without the need to try every move at white's disposal.
