Never having previously played a game from a set position, I inadvertently clicked on such a game on an Open Invite from Ravenswood (see game 1049380). So I didn't click on Info which would have shown me the starting position. In fact Ravenswood had set it up so that he achieves Checkmate on move 1 by promoting a pawn to knight.
I then saw that he has done this to numbers of others (I bet most of them were as unobservant as me so didn't know they weren't playing a proper game until they were defeated) and he still has some Open Invites pending at the moment.
This obviously appeals to some sense of humours, but those who don't want to waste their time in this way should be more aware than I was about the set position icon.

No, I noted that so I didn't have that worry. Just slightly irritated, and I thought others might wish to be aware. Mind you people like me who aren't too well up on the icons, probably don't much read the Forums either!

Is it just me or does anyone else find Bowmann rude? There is no need for these negative comments.
Ravello, Darv and Shav can all articulate a witty put down if necessary but I find Bowmann's comments lack any worthwhile insight.

First, they may have learned about set positions in open invites. Second, they learned that superior position can win a game, in spite of the lack of power. Finally, and the best of all, it's not always best to promote to a Queen!
It's kind of amazing that 15 or so people took those invites. Some had a high enough rating that would make you think they'd know better! I guess it's possible that it was because they didn't understand set position games or icons.
But either way, it was all in fun. For those that felt it a waste of time, keep in mind; you didn't have to make a single move in the game, and I responded to each acceptance almost immediately.
And yes, creswinman STILL lacks creativity. 8-) Maybe he's just spamming his profile and website with that 2400-2500 open invite he keeps putting up. (I doubt it's Ironman31 he really wants to play.) Not my place to care, but again, the novelty...
Maybe the site should auto-drop any open invite that goes past 24 hours (or 48 or whatever.) What do you pawn-pushers think?
Share the love, April Fools everyone you meet!
