What is the name of this defense?
Open a board, and copy the following, I don't know chess notation, if you want to help.
White:
1. Pawn to d4 2. Pawn to e4. 3. Anything (say, knight to f3)
Black:
1. Pawn to g6. 2. Pawn to d6. 3. bishop to g7.
Modern Defense, maybe transposing into KID.
Originally posted by cmsMasterThanks, but any exact name? If I can use it successfully, it has to have a name...I think I have a better winning percentage with black than white and using that opening (I use Ruy Lopez white)

Is it good?

I use it well. It gets me a good indirect attack, usually on whites queen side, and it gives my king very decent position.
EDITING: CAN SOMEONE POST THE FEN OF THIS OPENING???White:
1. Pawn to d4 2. Pawn to e4. 3. Anything (say, knight to f3)
Black:
1. Pawn to g6. 2. Pawn to d6. 3. bishop to g7.
Invalid FEN inserted - rknbqkbknrppp/pp/p

How do you put in the space: rnbqk space nr (bishop is gone)
you asked how to put in a space? - you use a number (number should equal the number of blank squares you wish to display)
ie:
rnbqkbnr/pppppppp/8/8/4P3/8/PPPP1PPP/RNBQKBNR
rnbqkbnr = Rook, knight, bishop, queen, king, bishop, knight, rook
as you can see the knights are denoted by an 'n' rather than a 'k' (this is used for the king)
the second line being the pawns:
pppppppp = eight pawns in a row
lines three and four are:
8 = eight blank squares
line five is
4P3 = four blank quares then a pawn and then three blank squares
line six is empty again:
8
line seven is:
PPPP1PPP = four pawns, one blank square followed by three pawns
line eight (bottom line of the board) is
RNBQKBNR = Rook, knight, bishop, queen, king, bishop, knight, rook
Use lower case letters for black and UPPER case letters for white[/b]

you seem to want to display the following position:
White: 1) Pawn to D4, 2) Pawn to E4 3) Knight to f3
Black: 1) Pawn to g6, 2) Pawn to d6 3) bishop to g7
this would be:
rnbqk1nr/ppp1ppbp/3p2p1/8/3PP3/5N2/PPP2PPP/RNBQKB1R
[fen]rnbqk1nr/ppp1ppbp/3p2p1/8/3PP3/5N2/PPP2PPP/RNBQKB1R[/fen]
I have no need for this thread now. Thanks for the FEN help.
Now the question....
