Queens indian defense as black or the najdorf, depends on whites initial moves... as white myself, i do not think that I have a sound knowledge or theory of any one particular opening. However, I prefere to play the Ruy Lopez.

White: Ruy Lopez
Black: French Defense

Black: Pirc, KID & Modern Benoni

White: Giuoco Piano
Black: Reasonable with the Old Benoni.

the KIA and Modern defense is a good approach.

limited opening study. and you will understand the position better due to experience.

if you face the Ruy Lopez which is actually the Spanish Opening then play the Berlin Defense! this opening is so good for black that even a pawn down he can still draw imagine if black was equal in material!
