Passively Solid World Champ?

Only Chess

Dull?? I think not! How is this any less brilliant than Fischers game of the century? This was played in a World championship match, when there was a LOT more at stake.

Smyslov at work-watch his king! Browne (as usual) lost on time in a position where he was lost anyway- Black's next move would have been 32. … Ne5+):

no doubt he had some brilliant games
but a quick google says his overall style was simple and correct, not bright or artistic
I'm not a strong enough player to judge but the games displayed are nice

I'm only 1600 and have been told many times I play passively.
I've tried to change my style of play but it ends up a massacre with me losing.

Which world champion played passively but solid?

It's pointless for me to study games from Alekhine or Kasparov because I don't have that aggressive style.

Anderssen is my username but that's only a joke because he was so aggressive and I'm so passive.

One of them must have played "boring chess"...right?
Playing opposite of your own style is really good for your development as a chess player. Yes, you will get crushed and you will play weaker, but it is good for ya. Things rarely work the first time you try them.

Why don't you say who was white? I gather in this game black won?

@sonhouse

If you click on the 'Headers' tab below the pgn, it will show you who had what colour and what the result was.
