It is possible to checkmate, king and pawn against king, but it depends on having to get pawn to promote. Just have to be careful of avoiding stalemate as shown below (black is to move in this case):

Me too. I have done that more than once in blitz games. But in a diferent possition because this one is impossible to get because it would have been stalemate a move before the mate.

pawn on seventh rank he moves in front of it I push the king in behind, he moves his passed pawn to the seventh rank and I push my other to the 6th rank, then he queens his pawn and I push my second to the seventh rank and say checkmate. So He had a passed pawn he was pushing also. The best part was he got his queen one move before my pawn king checkmate, that is a look on an opponents face I won't forget for a long time. He just stared for about a 20 seconds, then he got up and left the room.

yes that was it. 🙂 I have played that a lot. He'll need another pawn or piece to move with to avoid stalemate.
