Our 46. ... Re3+ was met by 47.Kb4.

The only choices seem to be 47. ... Rxf3 or 47. ... Nf4.

I like Nf4.

-Protects our passed pawn on h3
-Blocks advance of white pawn on f3
-Brings Knight to a more central position - closer to both white's king and passed pawn.
-Leaves our rook nicely placed on a completely open file.


White's most significant threat by far is his passed pawn on c4. Capturing the f-pawn with the rook seems to do bugger all towards countering that threat.

As far as I can see, we have an easy draw after anything other than Ka5. Things get a little more complicated after Ka5.

I vote 47...Nf4

I vote to resign. It's the only respectable thing to do considering the quality of our past few moves. 😛 Sheesh I leave for a little while and you guys fall apart! I still think we had a win before. 😀

those passed pawns are terrible news.

We still need a move here. It seems like Nf4 is our choice, but I'll give it a few more days to see if anyone has anything else to post.

Everyone seems really down on the position. I'm a little confused. Surely we have, at the very least, a draw?

47. ... Nf4 48. c5 (For instance. Feel free to suggest a white improvement. I'm just pushing the pawn.) Re1! 49. Rh2 Re2 50. Rh1 Re1 etc.

I vote for 47. ... Nf4.

Edit: 48. Ka5 is, as Ropespierre said, is tricky for us. But I still don't think it's dire.

Should have done ...Nf4 before instead of that rook move
