Originally posted by exigentskyI don't particularly care about my rating here, but it seems from many players I've contacted and tried to get a game going with - they evidently care since I've had people tell me that they do not wish to lose to a 1200 player. My viewpoint is who gives a sh_t who you beat or lose to? RHP to me is a tool to somehow better my overall chess skills, limiting as that may be. I've read players stating that RHP has ruined their OTB play. Probably true but one needs to consider what one's goal is. If your goal is to improve as on RHP then this should be the place to be - right? If I wish to be a good swimmer I need to get in the pool and swim, not exclusively read books or do dry excercises to improve my swimming. I'll have to actually dive in and swim if I truly desire to improve. Would it not be the same regarding chess, and as far as rules of specificity go, do I want to improve my blitz chess, OTB 40-move/120 minutes chess, internet chess (on RGP) or another such site, etc? I personally find that the combination of OTB, chess on instantchess (15 min games) and how I plan to utilize RHP should suit my goals just fine. On RHP I shall join, then play at least 10 - 15 games at a time in order to improve my pattern recognition by looking at a lot of positions. I'm hoping that the overall effect of these three elements, along with some book study (Russian Grandmaster Course) can help me get out of my "patzer" status - IMHO.
Why would anyone care about their rating on RHP?
So answering Exigentsky again, no...I do not particularly care but it appear that many on RHP do care about ratings. I'm just looking for quality opponents who will be honorable when I ask for a quick game. I won't be asking for quick games all the time however as I realize that many simply do not have the time to sit through and finish a game. These should not respond IMO. Oh well, I'm simply going to join the site and do what I can here while playing my faster games on instantchess (I suppose). I enjoy the forums here as well.
