Now I'm confused. I started today believing there was never a perpetual check rule, but then someone cited wikipedia which says the rule was removed since it is redundant.

Next time I'm in my attic, I'm digging out my 1977 chess rule book.

Three identical positions gives draw if claimed.
Doesn't matter if a check is involved or not.
Doesn't matter if the positions are consecutive or not.
