When I cut and paste the game record into notepad, and then try opening it in Chessmaster I get a message that there are invalid characters. Am I doing something wrong, or does this happen occaisionally?

No you are doing it correctly. I remember something about the characters used to indicate castling on this site being non standard but I can not remember the details. I know Fritz has no trouble reading the PGN files I create from this site.
It should work fine,I never have any trouble with it.Though I don't have CM,I use Fritz7 or winboard.Maybe you copied the text in the email too? If you tell me which game it is,I'll check if the pgn works in winboard.
When you see the game I know I should have brought up the rooks and put some more pressure on the king, but I wasn't thinking straight lst night. I was trying to end the game so I could leave work.
