Still, it leaves the tournament back open for a human to win it.
sfc1602 banned also, although he was not in the 2008 championship.
phatboy666 was an incredibly obvious cheat. Pretty shameful that he remained unbanned for such a long time. Of course, there are several more (many more?) in the "currently unbanned" category.

phatboy666, fisherov and sfc1602 were quite obvious cheats. Glad to see them gone.
Originally posted by gambit05 Good to know that those cheats are gone, but they already messed up the championship 2008 as far as I can see it.
Very true. And not just in the final, but also in eliminating players that otherwise would have qualified. The 2005-2006 champ Quirine was knocked out in the first round (in part) by the cheater tension84.
Every time a cheat gets banned, I'm somewhat surprised to see that I've never had to play a game against them. I am dodging bullets left and right. Hopefully if more people get banned, it won't ruin my streak. 😀
Just resigned a game against phatboy in the 2008 where according to someone's analysis using Fritz11 there were 18 non-database moves and he matched the machine's first choice 17 moves and the other was Fritz's second choice. Not sure I've ever played any cheat who was so blatant.

I played only fischerov from this bunch of losers and got hopelessly destroyed by him.
I looked back over my games and I remembered Game 3691464 as following the Morra down a line that my books advised against but engines liked.

Only hope that phatboy666 will be banned did not allow me to resign one of my games against him - I`ve tried to stall it as long as possible.
Just as well I read this thread now, since I was just about to resign one of my games against Fischerov, in which I'd blundered my queen away in the opening (a Schliemann gone badly wrong). Must admit I had my suspicions; ruthlessly precise moves coming back at a rate of knots...

Was it enough to make you rethink the schlieman, now a computer has found a strong line against it, or is it a line that could have been ok if played accurately?
