Anyone want to express their thoughts about this opening? For those who don't know, it's 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d6.

For those who don't know it's Philidor. 🙂

It's passive, but simple and straightforward. I think it's an excellent choice for beginners (IMO moreso than the Ruy by far) and is sound enough to play through 1800-1900.

white has a good space advantage with this opening but i playable by black of course. the higher up you go the more players will know how to take advantage of that space. if your a positional player take on something like the ruy lopez. if you like your space take the sicilian.

Philidor is for wimps, unless you want to play a quick f5 then it's respectable.

    I like this opening.Especially line 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d63.d4 Nf6 4.Nc4 Nbd7 on which I`m going with different move order 1.e4d6 2.d4 Nf6 3.Nc3 e5 and the bestfor white s to play 4.Nc3 and after 4...Nbd7 position is the same.

But. These opening is NOT for beginners and for players who misunderstand and/or dislike positional play.
