Hey guys! I was wondering what is your opinion on the Philidor Defence (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d6), whether you play this opening or not.

its playable but I think it offers white some initiative... If you can get through the first 10 or 15 moves you should be ok.

I think the general idea is that it is a bit passive for black... but personally I love playing it. There is so much tactics if white pushes too hard, and the opening does invite white to push. And it is so simple 🙂 I know this opening was a favourite of for example GM Bacrot (and Nimzowitsch of course).

I agree that White cannot overextend. However, with careful play, White can suffocate Black.
