This is the checkmate I have always wanted to be able to give, and it was made slightly more complicated by the presence of the white queen. Just wanted to show it off really as its my first winning queen sac and a nice combo.

The possibility dawns at about move 17 when I start making some terrible moves chasing this pattern.

I think it *might* have been possible to almost force it with Bxd5 to open up the e file and Re1 to move the queen without leaving a choice of pieces en prise and hoping the knights werent captured.

    Anyway :-D

Qxe4 and it can still happen, as the second knight is not needed to capture the queen, Bxe4 stops it however. White's Nxh4 was the coffin blow as the knight was covering g1.

in fact, you missed that after Qxe4, nf2+ Rxf2 win a free knight as white is treatning mate in one. so, No more phlidor combinaison.
