Pirc defense and KID

Hi. I'm reading up on both defenses and trying to study them simultaneously because black's set-up in both defenses is quite similar and I am comfortable playing the KID. My question is, how is the pirc different from the KID, and how should I handle it?

Well, the obvious difference is the fact that in the Pirc, White doesn't get the chance to play c4 at any time, since an early ...Nf6 forces Nc3. The result is slightly less central control for white, and less chances of him playing on the queenside. In the Pirc, black normally plays on the queenside and in the center, but in the KID, normally he plays on the kingside. I think it might be best to study them one after another, so as not to get confused, but that's just me.

Agreed. Don't be fooled by their similar setup. They are different openings entirely.

I second that notion!
