does this kind of thing happen? It would make a wonderful game even more interesting. Obviously couldn't be promoted on RHP but no reason why like minded individuals couldn't agree their own terms.

I believe there is a system on playchess in which you can bet ducats (money?). If anyone has more info perhaps they can elaborate.

yes there is some cash tournies....in my county their is a scholastic tourny where 2/5 wins are needed to win cash and top prize is $1,200. Second is $600 (i missed second by half a win last year)

anyways...im entering it next week =)

In some of the larger cities in the USA, there are people who play in parks for money. I have met people who played this way in both New York and Atlanta.

I've often played blitz for a dollar a game. It's a quite exhilarating way to spend an evening. Also, it's not gambling, since there is no element of chance involved.

How can you know that your opponent isn't using a chess program to steal your money?

trust i suppose - would never bet big money as someone could easily use an engine to win the cash
