This is what happens when I play tired:
Xanthos - Goumi 5 0
1. d4 d5 2. c4 c6 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. Nf3 Bf5 5. Bg5 e6 6. e3 Be7 7. cxd5 exd5 8. Nh4 Bg6 9. Nxg6 hxg6 10. Bd3 Qb6 11. b3 Bb4 12. Qc2 Nbd7 13. O-O Bd6 14. g3 Qc7 15. Ne2 Ng4 16. h4 Ngf6 17. Bxg6 fxg6 18. Qxg6+ Kf8 19. h5 Rxh5 0-1
The position after ...Ngf6 is slightly ahead for white and all I have to do is play a sensible move to continue to hold the advantage. Up until this point I've played well and I am feeling good. The thinking behind Bxg6 was that when the Knight was on g4 it won material as after Bxg6 fxg6 Qxg6+ if Kf8 then Qf5+ winning the knight and if Kd8 then I can pick up the g pawn and threaten plenty including the h8 rook.
Unfortunately the knight wasn't on g4 anymore (when it was on g4 h4 was required) and my sacrifice was something only paultopia would think of. Then after messing this up I proceed to forget the knight attacks h5 and hang the h pawn. At this point I figured better to cut my loses than play on knowing the next blunder is only a few moves away.
This is why I try not to play when tired. I just can't do it. Anyone else had games like this, good position then totally destroyed by one ill advised move. I'm not talking "I was up a rook then I blundered and lost." I'm talking close games but ones that you feel you can win totally butchered.

Here are two games I won on account of sleepy players...

How about "something only paultopia would play" ?
19. Nf4? Obviously he's gotta take, so 19. ... Bxf4 20. Bxf4 Qc8 (say) 21. Bd6+ Kg8
no, that doesn't work. he can force the bish off. no way to divert the d7 knight. no, that sac just didn't happen. doh.
Originally posted by WestWoodBoth games were virtually the same tactic, double check up the middle with the knight...In both cases, the opponant had queens out on early sorties and didn't bother to develop...There is no way I should be able to open up the middle that quickly without black having castled. Bad opening ideas...
