(um, you probably should have started a new thread but...)

You can't castle out of check, and you can't castle THROUGH check. All the squares the king has to move through have to be safe.

no, you can still castle ... but not while you are in check

It's a good book. Just try to understand why some opening moves are good and some are bad. It is an elementary book so if you do not feel motivated to read some of it, just play to experimentation and learn by doing. Forget about losing and have fun.
